Join Professor Peter Cawley for an in-depth conversation about his experiences of academic entrepreneurship, gained over more than 20 years of work as an innovator and company director.

Professor Cawley, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, leads the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) research group at Imperial. Alongside his distinguished academic career, Prof. Cawley has extensive experience of publishing patents, forming and running university spinouts and of licensing technology to industry.

He has founded companies including Integration Diagnostics Ltd, Guided Ultrasonics Ltd, and most recently, Permasense Ltd, a provider of corrosion monitoring solutions to the oil and gas industries, which was acquired by US Fortune 500 company Emerson Electric in 2016

Prof. Cawley will be joined by Imperial Innovations’ Director of Business Development, Brian Graves, for an informal ‘fireside chat’ interview covering his experiences, motivations, and lessons learned over more than 20 years as an academic entrepreneur.

The event will consist of 45 minutes of discussion and a 15 minute Q&A session.



Professor Peter Cawley is Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, where he leads the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) research group. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Royal Society, and has published over 190 refereed journal papers and a similar number of conference papers in the field of Non-Destructive Evaluation.
