Depending on a number of characteristics, different routes to market may be appropriate for your research.
There are three main ways in which we will commercialise your technology:
Forming a new business is what most people think of when they talk about commercialising university research. Imperial Innovations is highly experienced in forming and supporting businesses based on academic research (view our investment portfolio).
The Technology Transfer Office has a dedicated team – Co.Create – focused on forming and supporting businesses based on Imperial research.
Licensing is a key route to market for many university technologies and is an important approach to commercialisation. Certain technologies are more suitable for licensing – in fact, many more technologies developed through university research are suitable for licensing than spinout formation.
Our Technology Transfer team has many years of experience in licensing technology to industry, and we have completed hundreds of transactions over the years. Read more about licensing by clicking the link below.
Quicktech is an online licensing platform that we use for certain research materials developed by Imperial College London staff. The platform enables simpler licensing transactions with reduced negotiation time, and it helps us make more technology available more widely.
