Cranfield
Imperial Innovations provides commercialisation services to Cranfield University under a non-exclusive agreement with Cranfield Ventures Limited (CVL). Imperial Innovations aims to work with Cranfield University staff to identify inventions, ideas, IP and projects that may require the provision of commercialisation services. Potential commercialisation opportunities are evaluated by Innovations for technical and commercial feasibility with the results used to develop a commercialisation plan that will be followed should the two parties agree to progress this further. IP protection will remain the responsibility of Cranfield University but Imperial Innovations will, through its extensive experience of patent management in a commercial environment, provide advice to ensure that patents are handled in a commercial and cost effective way.
The commercial assessment activity will lead to identifying whether to licence the technology or to create a spin-out company. For license opportunities, Innovations will promote the technology to potential licensees, and will work with CVL to negotiate and close a deal on appropriate terms and conditions. Should Innovations conclude that spin-out formation is preferable for commercialisation, Innovations will assist CVL to negotiate the foundation equity split and will work to establish a suitable executive team with business plans and funding opportunities required to ensure success.
